Schools In Haridwar To Remain Closed For A Week Due To Kanwar Yatra
Haridwar DM Garbiyal announced that government, non-government schools, and Anganwadi centres from class 1 to 12 in the district will remain closed from July 27 to August 2

All schools in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar will remain closed for a week from July 27 to August 2 in view of the heavy footfall of devotees during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra which started on Monday, July 22. Haridwar DM Garbiyal announced that government, non-government schools, and Anganwadi centres from class 1 to 12 in the district will remain closed from July 27 to August 2.

District Magistrate Dhiraj Singh Garbiyal said that the schools will be closed since the rush will only increase in the coming days. The yatra began on the first day of Sawan (Shravan) month on Monday and will end on August 2.

The ‘Kanwar yatra’ this year has been surrounded with controversies which began with Muzaffarnagar police in Uttar Pradesh issuing an order mandating restaurant owners to display their names in front of the eateries along the route of ‘Kanwar Yatra’. The order was then extended across the state by Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government.

On Monday, however, the Supreme Court issued an interim stay on directives requiring eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display the names of their owners. However, the court stipulated that eateries must continue to mention the nature of the food being served.
