At present, there is just one teacher Sumitra Sethi who remained absent on Friday.Locals said although they have been protesting absence of teachers, no remedial steps have been taken yet.The situation at Lathore Nodal Project Upper Primary School in Khaprakhol block is alarming. This school has been locked for the last one week. Set up in 1914, the school has on rolls 230 students. Although the school is fortunate enough to have five teachers, three including headmaster, have been transferred leaving just two teachers for Class I to VII. The school managing committee and parents resolved to lock the school till appointments are made. While Khaprakhol BDO Rabindra Kumar Rana expressed helplessness in solving the problems of both the schools, the DI of Schools, Sushanta Chopdar, said the district is facing acute shortage of teachers. “It is not possible on our part to post teachers in the school now,” he said. The parents have locked Uchhala Primary School in Golamunda block of Kalahandi district. There is just one teacher for 144 students from Class I to V.
