THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The schools in the state will reopen after summer vacation with around 50 lakh students entering the campuses on June 1, amidst criticism that the distribution of the textbooks has not been completed.Around 3.5 lakh students in Standard I will be among those who will be coming to schools on June 1.The opening day will be celebrated as 'Pravesanotsavam', aimed at generating greater learning interest among students. Teachers and senior students will welcome the tiny tots to the schools with sweets and balloons. Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb told ? that the distribution of textbooks would be completed before the reopening of schools. "As per the reports from officials, textbooks have reached all districts and are ready for distribution," the minister said.One of the other issues yet to be sorted out was with regard to the implementation of the recommendation to make Malayalam the first language. This recommendation has been opposed by linguistic minority groups.The Education Minister said that the decision on making Malayalam the first language will be taken after discussions with all concerned including Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
