BANGALORE: Karnataka State Tourism Department is likely to issue tenders to develop an International golf course at the cost of Rs 108 crore on the Mangalore coast to promote tourism in the state.
Department of Tourism director K Viswanatha Reddy said, three big names in the hospitality industry have expressed their interest to undertake the project on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. "We are in the process of undertaking the project with one company," he said. The proposed golf course would be the first of its kind in the country and will attract tourists from south east Asia and Japan. This will be the first sea facing golf course in the country.

According to Reddy, people pay around $6,000 to play one course of golf in Japan and if the proposed golf course is developed they can avail the same facilities at the cost of $2,500, which will also include travelling charges. The selected partner will have to develop an 18holed golf course in accordance with the prescribed International standards besides providing the required infrastructure including a hotel with 150 rooms.

The department had to cancel the tenders that were invited for the project for the first time as there was some confusion in the tendering process and had to invite fresh tenders.
