VIJAYAWADA: Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam on Monday started erecting a second iron mesh on Indrakeeladri to prevent landslides on ghat road during the rainy season. Though the temple authorities erected an iron mesh one and half years ago, landslides occurred when incessant rains lashed the city, posing a threat to pilgrims visiting the temple. The officials were forced the close the ghat road for two days to clear the debris. Now, an extra strength GI wire mesh is being erected for a stretch of 40 metres at a vulnerable curve on the ghat road at a cost of Rs 16 lakh to prevent landslides.Speaking to Express, temple executive engineer P Murali Balakrishna said the work would be completed soon. But devotees are of the view that the temple authorities should take permanent measures to prevent landslides considering the loose soil on Indrakeeladri.
