Pramod Mahajan's servant, in court on Friday, identified his brother Pravin Mahajan as the shooter.

New Delhi: In fresh evidence in the Pramod Mahajan murder case, the late BJP leader’s servant, on Friday, identified his brother Pravin Mahajan as the shooter.

Pramod Mahajan’s servant, Mahesh Wankhede, identified Pravin Mahajan in court and said that he was a regular visitor to Pramod Mahajan’s house.

Wankhede also identified the empty bullet shells used in the BJP leader’s murder and said he had heard 'bullet sounds' on the morning of the murder.

For now, the murder case has been adjourned till May 22.

Last month, in another twist to the case, senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde said during his deposition that Mahajan had received a threatening message from Pravin a few days before he (Pramod Mahajan) was shot. Munde is also the late BJP leader's brother-in-law.

The message read: Ab na hogi prathna ab na hogi yachna ab maran hoga ab jeet hogi ya ant hoga (There'll be no prayers, no mercy, there'll be no pain only victory).

Munde said that the message was received by Pramod a few days after Pravin had gone to his residence, demanded Rs 1 crore and said he would face the consequences for not paying him the amount, reported PTI.

Following Munde's statement, Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam told the court that this was a new development which had not emerged during earlier investigations in the case.

Nikam sought to defer the recording of Munde's statement since the police would now need to look into this matter.

The court adjourned the recording of Munde's statement until Thursday and asked the police to probe Munde's claims.

Earlier, Pramod Mahajan's wife, Rekha Mahajan had told the court that Pravin had brought the pistol to their Worli residence in 1999 when Pramod was away and showed it to her.

She described the pistol saying that it had some number marking on it but she did not pay much attention to other details.

Rekha had then called Munde, who lived in the same building as Pramod Mahajan, for help.

Pramod Mahajan was allegedly shot at multiple times by his brother Pravin.

The incident took place at Pramod Mahajan's Worli residence in South Mumbai on April 22, 2006. Pramod Mahajan succumbed to the injuries on May 3.

Pravin had fired three bullets at Pramod Mahajan on April 22 last year following which the latter succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the Hinduja Hospital.

Pravin had then surrendered before the Worli Police.
