Sita Soren, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) legislator and daughter-in-law of party chief Shibu Soren, surrendered in a court in Ranchi on Tuesday following which she was sent to 14 days' judicial custody.
Sita Soren surrendered in a CBI court in Ranchi as her anticipatory bail in a 2012 horse-trading case was rejected by the Jharkhand High Court last week.
The court had directed her to surrender within one week.
CBI had raided houses of more than 23 legislators of different parties in connection with the 2010 and 2012 horse-trading cases.
The Jharkhand unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has, however, charged that the CBI is shielding many JMM, Congress and other legislators involved in the 2012 horse-trading case.
"We demand that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) should be formed to investigate the 2012 horse-trading case and the Jharkhand High Court should monitor the case investigation. CBI is working as Congress Investigation Agency," Raghubar Das, a BJP legislator said.
On polling day March 30, 2012 for Rajya Sabha biennial elections, income tax sleuths seized more than Rs.2 crore from a vehicle said to be owned by a relative of independent candidate R.K. Agrawal. The poll was later countermanded by the election commission in view of incidents of "horse trading and use of money power to influence the voters".
