Shravana 2024: Telangana Priest Shares Auspicious Dates
A local priest at the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Karimnagar, Telangana said that Shravana month is considered ideal for planning and executing auspicious events.

In Hindu tradition, the concept of muhurtha or auspicious times holds great importance for commencing significant activities. Muhurthas are considered essential for starting any important tasks, and without these auspicious moments, people generally avoid initiating new ventures or ceremonies. This practice underscores the belief that timing can influence the success and well-being of the activities undertaken.

For the past three months, there have been no favourable muhurthas available for ceremonies or auspicious events. However, with the beginning of the month of Shravana on August 5, this restriction is lifted. Shravana is regarded as a highly auspicious month in the Hindu calendar, making it a favourable time for various important activities.

Narasimha Chari, a local priest at the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Karimnagar, Telangana confirmed that Shravana month is considered ideal for planning and executing auspicious events. This is a relief for many who have been waiting for the right time to conduct ceremonies such as weddings, housewarmings, and other significant rituals. The upcoming months, specifically the periods referred to as ‘mooda’ and ‘shunya masa,’ will not offer favourable times for conducting ceremonies.

This is why the scheduling of events such as weddings has been postponed. Pandits suggest that after this period, auspicious times will again be available starting with Shravana month. This month is seen as particularly propitious because previous months, including certain Fridays, Gurus, and the Ashada month, were not considered ideal for auspicious occasions.

Looking ahead, Bhadrapada and Ashwija months will not have any auspicious times either. However, there is hope that good times will return with Kartika Purnima, a later date in the Hindu calendar. Consequently, during Shravana month, which ends on September 3, people are advised to plan their important events. This includes housewarming ceremonies, weddings, and foundation-laying ceremonies.

Given the long gap before the next set of favourable times, many individuals have already begun making preparations for their events during Shravana month. The specific dates deemed auspicious by pandits for this month include the 8th, 10th, 11th, 15th, 18th, 20th, 26th, 28th, and 30th. These dates are seen as particularly beneficial for conducting significant ceremonies.
