Mumbai: Bollywood actor Sohail Khan's driver Dhananjay Pimpale has been granted bail after he allegedly ran over a woman in Bandra. Police on Monday said that the actor was not in the car. Police have charged the driver with rash and negligent driving.
Pimpale had surrendered at the Bandra police station after allegedly mowing down a 70-year-old homeless woman in Bandra.
The Land Cruiser is reportedly registered in the name of Sohail's brother Arbaaz Khan, but was being driven by Sohail's driver Dhananjay Pimple, police sources said.
"We are not abled to trace the family of the victim. I am very sad about her death," Sohail said. His brother Salman Khan said that incident was unfortunate.
The incident occurred at around 11 pm when Pimpale, while taking a U-turn near St Andrews Church mowed down the woman
sleeping on the footpath, police said.
After the incident, Pimple drove to Bandra Police Station and surrendered. Police took him into custody and verified the facts.
In the meantime, a constable at the site of the accident saw the mishap and rushed the victim, identified as Chandan
Bala, to the nearby Bhabha Hospital, where she was declared dead before admission.
Sohail was not in the car at the time of the mishap, police said.
Police is likely to record the statements of Sohail Khan and his brother Arbaaz Khan in the case.
Preliminary reports said that the driver was not drunk, but the results of his medical tests were awaited.
