Mumbai: Over 35,000 participants, including around 300 from other countries, will participate scheduled to be held on January 18 next year.
As a show of solidarity with its hospitality partner, the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon will have a different starting point.
The marathon will now start from the Trident Hotel, while it will terminate at the Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus, both of which were targeted by the terrorists, last month.
The spirit will be noticed in the sixth edition of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, one of the richest marathons in the country.
''The choice of the hotel was not by chance but by desire,'' Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said at a press conference here today to announce the event.
''Through the Marathon, Mumbai city would be sending a clear message to the rest of the world that nothing will desist us from our paths,'' he said.
''We can't allow our spirit to be put down by the terrorists. This is our response to the heinous attacks,'' he added.
Executive Vice-President of Oberoi-Trident, Devendra Bharma said he welcomed Mr Bhujbal's remarks that the spirit of Mumbai will not be put down.
Bollywood actor and the event's brand ambassador John Abraham said, "26/11 redefined to me the meaning of Marathon. We saw Marathon courage and Marathon unity (from the citizens).''
