Some relief from power shock
Some relief from power shock

Amid widespread criticism against the hike in power tariff, the state government has decided to provide relief to certain groups.

The Cabinet has given the nod for a total waiver in the proposed tariff and fixed rate for consumption up to 120 units per month in the domestic category.

The tariff hike proposed for marginal agriculturists and allied sectors has also been rolled back in toto.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the state government will sanction `294.66 crore to the KSEB as grant to offset the losses for providing relief to the two segments.

Of the 85 lakh domestic category consumers, 69 lakh belong to those availing of up to 200 units per month.

Likewise, with the tariff retention for marginal farmers, around 4.59 lakh consumers can heave a sigh.

Chandy said the electricity tariff hike was unavoidable.
