KADUTHURUTHY: In a ghastly incident, an old woman was raped by a middleaged man, allegedly with the assistance of the woman's son at her residence at K S Puram, near here.Jojo, 35, the widow's son, and Mohanan, 50, his rapist friend, have been arrested in connection with the incident.While Mohanan was arrested on Tuesday, Jojo was booked on Wednesday. The arrest was made on the basis of final results of medical confirmatory tests carried out on the victim. The rape was committed three and ahalf months ago.According to the police, Mohanan, a rag picker by profession, had reached the house of Jojo, his friend, on February 20 night. Both of them were in an inebriated condition. It is alleged that while Mohanan targeted the old woman for a sexual assault, her son assisted him in the barbaric act.The woman lodged a complaint with the police soon after the incident and underwent medical tests in the Kottayam Medical College. The lab report, which confirmed the allegation of sexual assault, was forwarded to the Medical Examination Lab at Thiruvananthapuram which also supported the findings.The victim's other son was away from home at the time of the incident. Jojo is a bachelor. Mohanan is married and father of two children. The accused were produced in the Vaikom First Class Magistrate Court which remanded him in two weeks' judicial custody.
