THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Southern Railway, one of the oldest railway zones in the country, is on an ambitious publicity drive. The Railway’s participation in the ongoing exhibition as part of the Thrissur Pooram is drawing large crowds, say officials. Inspired by the success, the Railway is planning to organise more such events to provide information on its history, functioning and various schemes."We have been participating in the Thrissur Pooram exhibition for the past 48 years. This time also we got tremendous response,’’ said Khemraj Meena, Southern Railway Thiruvananthapuram Division PRO. ‘’We also plan to participate in the Santhigiri Fest now on at Santhigiri Ashram, Pothencode,’’ he added.The exhibits in the railway pavilion at Thrissur include write-ups and photographs depicting the growth and evolution of the railway system in the country."We also wish to take to the people the various schemes like IZZAT,’’ Meena said. "The IZZAT season ticket, which costs Rs 25, is issued to persons working in the unorganised sectors with a monthly income not exceeding Rs 1,500. We wish such schemes to get more popularity,’’ he said.Photographs and models of the first train run in the subcontinent, historic moments in the history of railways in the state and photographs of different types of locomotives are exhibited at the pavilion. Information for passengers, answers to commonly raised doubts, safe travel tips for passengers, helpline numbers and a media corner with reports that appeared in major dailies are other attractions.
