BHUBANESWAR: It was a starry Tuesday nite. A mix of glamour and entertainment, the 21st State Film Awards function held here was a glittering spectacle.Scintillating dances, colourful medleys and the presence of who’s who of Ollywood made the nite a memorable one. At the function held at the packed Rabindra Mandap, Governor M C Bhandare gave away the State film awards for 2008 and 2009.Culture Minister Prafulla Samal said from next year, a date will be set for giving away the awards. Also event management groups will be roped in to hold the function on a larger scale, he said.In the absence of veteran film actor-director Sadhu Meher, the Jaydev Award-2008 for Lifetime Achievement was received by his friend and Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi president Sarat Pujari. Well-known actress Mahasweta Ray received the Lifetime Achievement Award for 2009. The Governor gave away the Mohan Sundar Dev Goswami Award for best film (2008) to producer Akshaya Parija for Jianta Bhoota. Veteran actor-director Prashant Nanda received the best director award for the movie. “This gives me the inspiration to do more socially relevant movies,” said Nanda while interacting with TNIE.Jianta Bhoota also bagged awards in five other categories _ best photography, best art director, best sound recordist, best editing and special jury. The movie portrays the vanishing tradition and culture of the Dongria Kondhs inhabiting the Niyamgiri hills due to unbridled mining. For 2009, the award went to Saata Sure Bandha e Jeeban by Manmath Mishra and Dilip Das. Director Sanjay Naik received the best director award for Pagal Karichi Paunji Tora. While Akash Das Nayak and Rally Nanda got the Best Actor and Actress awards respectively for 2008 for the movie Kalinga Putra, Anubhav Mohanty took the Best Actor award for Aakase Ki Ranga Lagila (2009). The Best Actress award for 2009 went to Archita Sahoo for Pagala Karichi Paunji Tora.Actor Bijay Mohanty, who received the best supporting actor award for Satya Meba Jayate for 2008, however, rued that the jury should have taken all the 21 movies produced in the year and not just eight films into consideration for the awards. The best supporting actress award for the year went to Aparajita Mohanty for Hasiba Puni Mo Suna Sansar. For 2009, the best supporting actor award went to Mihir Das for Abhimanyu and best supporting actress award to Madhusmita Pradhan for Suna Chadhei Mo Rupa Chadhei.  The special jury award for 2009 went to Trupti Panda for ‘Ulgulan’.Altogether awards were given in 20 categories, each for 2008 and 2009.
