State government to hold Education Week in June

HYDERABAD:  In pursuit of the promises made to bring reform in education during the Rachabanda programme, the state Government is planning to organise an ‘Education Week’ across the state next month.The decision to organise the programme was taken at a review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, held on Wednesday.The focus of the programme will be on quality of education, universalisation of education and to ensure infrastructure and other facilities in education.To increase the enrolment in elementary education and contain the drop-out rate in school level, the state government will launch a drive to identify the schools with high drop-our rates. Special training will be organised for officials to increase enrolments in schools especially in tribal areas in the state, said a source close to the developments.Gram Sabhas will be organised to discuss enrolment of children and quality of education in respective Panchayats. The state govt is also mulling a door-to-door campaign for enrolment of the children above five years. As part of the programme, the MEOs, MRPs and SMC members across the state will undergo an orientation programme on provisions of Right To Education Act. During the week, the government will inaugurate newly constructed building, distribution of uniforms and text books to children during the programme. Book depots will also be opened in identified schools in convergence with department of public library.Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will launch the programme. Ministers and other public representatives will launch the programme district and mandal levels.The programme during the week will also comprise admission of girls in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas, demonstration of children performance at school, distribution of prizes.
