THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has affirmed that there is no need to panic, though a high alert has been sounded against the backdrop of tremors off the Indonesian coast and the tsunami threat across the country. In a post-Cabinet briefing, the Chief Minister said that he had convened an emergency meet to review the preparedness to meet the threat. He said that fishermen had been advised not to venture into the sea. “All the 14 districts have been put on alert. We are ready to face any eventuality. People have been asked to remain informed on the developments by watching TV or through other sources,” he said. Chandy said the chances of tsunami hitting the coast were not being ruled out altogether and the government was awaiting information from experts.“As per the information, there is no need to panic,” he said. He also said that after the tremors, abnormal movement in surface water level in dams have been reported.
