BANGALORE: The state-level youth festival, a three-day cultural extravaganza will be held at Karkala in Udupi district from November 12, Director of Department of Youth Services and Sports V Chandrashekhar said here recently.Chandrashekhar told Express that over 1,200 participants - of which about 500 are women - from all 30 districts in the state will take part in the event which would be held at Gandhi Maidan in Karkala. “CM D V Sadananda Gowda will be invited to inaugurate the 3-day event which is expected to attract a large crowds as it would demonstrate the rich cultural heritage and traditional and classical forms of arts, folk, music, dance and theatre,” he said.Minister for Higher Education Dr V S Acharya, will participate in the event. The event will be hosted by Udupi district administration. He said that the department would release Rs 10 lakh to the district administration for hosting the event.He said that the event assumes importance as participants excelling in the event would qualify automatically to represent the state at the National Youth Festival scheduled to be held in Mangalore in January next year.Chandrashekar exuded confidence at the preparations for the state youth festival and said that accommodation, food and travel arrangements for participants from various districts are  being made. The events will include folk dance, one-act play, Karnatic and Hindustani classical vocal and instrumental, elocution; top three prizes for the events are cash prizes of Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000, respectively.
