New Delhi: The Delhi High court has ordered a stay on the arrest of St Stephen's Professor Satish Kumar till the next hearing on August 17. The professor is accused of harassing a research student of the college.
Meanwhile, the research scholar, who was allegedly molested by the professor, on Thursday submitted a set of recordings made by her during her meetings with the accused and principal Valson Thampu to the police.
The professor's lawyer has refuted all allegations and called the tape doctored. "This tape is doctored , my client's voice is not there. I will ask for an FSL probe. The Complainant has been changing her versions. We got relief because court found merit in our version," the lawyer added.
Thampu has so far maintained that there was no pressure put on the student on the college's behalf. But with the latest salvo Thampu is facing heat from all quarters. "The principal should be sacked immediately because he should have come out in the support of the girl instead he was trying to bury the matter," said Ashish Joshi, media coordinator of Old Stephanians Association.
The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has said that it has taken cognisance of the entire episode. "We have sought details of the entire case and appropriate legal action would be taken," said Barkha Singh, chairperson DCW.
