TRIPUNITHURA: ‘Surrender your land and be the proud owner of a bus stand’, this is the promise that Tripunithura Municipality gives you. Setting a new model, the Tripunithura Municipality has decided to construct a bus stand with the participation of the public. As per the proposal, those who surrender their land will be given shares in the project. The proposed bus stand is coming up on the 12.5 acres of land near the railway station. “We have held preliminary meeting with land owners who will have to surrender their land for the project. Most of them agreed to cooperate with us. Only a few land owners stay here. Land acquisition in this case will be through debentures,” Tripunithura municipality chairman R Venugopal told City Express. The civic body, in its budget for 2012-13, has earmarked `50 crore for acquiring land for the bus terminal which will be spread in an area of 12.5 acres. “The proposed bus terminal will connected the SN Junction with a four-lane road which will go parallel to the railway track,” Venugopal said. According to him, the proposed bus stand will be a great relief to rail commuters who otherwise would have to walk or hire an auto to take a bus at the main bus stand."As per the statistics available, the amount collected through ticket sales alone at Tripunithura railway station is around `50 lakh. This indicates the huge number of passengers who depend on the railway station. It further reminds us the need of a bus stand near railway station,” he said.
