Srinagar: Suspected militants on Monday robbed a bank in Charar-e-Sharief area of central Kashmir's Budgam district, decamping with nearly Rs 13 lakh cash, of which Rs 11 lakh was in the banned currency notes, police sources told CNN-News18.
The gunmen barged into the Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch at Malpora in Chrar-e-Sharief and took away cash from the counters at gunpoint, a police official said.
He said while exact amount of the money taken by the gunmen was being ascertained, the bank officials believe the amount to be around Rs 13 lakh.
The bank was operating from two shops and had no police guard which can be attributed to the spate of gun snatching from policemen guarding minority pickets or Office installation.
Also, there are no CCTVs installed in the bank which makes police investigations slightly difficult.
