CHENNAI: Political leaders wanted the police officers, who ordered the Paramakudi firing, to be suspended. However, Deputy Leader of Opposition, Panruti S Ramachandran, said that had Tamizhaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam founder John Pandian obeyed the directions of the district administration, the tragic events would have been averted.
Puthiya Thamizhagam president K Krishnasamy said he was satisfied with the DRO inquiry, ordered by the State government, and wanted to express his views. As Speaker D Jayakumar refused permission, he staged a walkout.Replying to a discussion on a special mention on the Paramakudi violence and police firing in the State Assembly, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said the police had made elaborate security arrangements in Ramanathapuram district for the birthday celebrations of Dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran on September 11.

Palanikumar, a Class 11 student hailing from Mandalamanickam Pachcheri village near Kamudhi, was allegedly murdered by some persons on the night of September 9. The next day, the police had arrested five persons belonging to the village. She had directed the police to bring to book those involved in the attack.

John Pandian, however, was taken into preventive custody at Vallanadu in Tuticorin district when he was on his way to Paramakudi, violating the collector's order.
