THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: When devising long-term developmental projects, the impact on the environment has to be assessed, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said on Tuesday. He was speaking after inaugurating the celebrations held to mark the International Day for Biological Diversity and distribution of Green Awards-2011 organised by Kerala State Biodiversity Board here. Sustainable development models are those that respect the environment. Though it is said that Kerala has 27 per cent forest area, the reality is different. Delivering the keynote address, Chief Secretary K Jayakumar said that nature had a rhythm and ours was a culture that understood this. The earth should be looked upon with gratitude and not with arrogance, he said.
