Hyderabad: IT and pharma industries in Andhra Pradesh want a quick end to the impasse over the Telangana statehood issue, fearing prolonged stalemate will hamper the state's economy.
The stalemate in the statehood issue will have a negative impact on fresh contracts from overseas for the IT industry, according to the IT and ITES Industry Association of Andhra Pradesh (ITsAP).
Reacting to the Srikrishna Committee's recommendations to resolve the issue, L Suresh, President of ITsAP, on Thursday said they have no specific preferences out of the six options suggested by the Centre-appointed panel.
The five-member committee has recommended six options, including keeping AP united with constitutional and statutory measures for empowerment of Telangana and bifurcation of the state with Telangana and one or the other regions with it.
"We do not want the issue to be prolonged. Something has to be done quickly. The delay may hamper future investments and contracts from overseas," Suresh maintained.
GV Prasad, Vice-Chairman and CEO, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, said AP's pharma industry serves the entire world and it cannot take the risk of destabilisation. "We are more concerned about unrest than the division of the state. We cannot afford to have attacks on facilities," he told PTI.
According to Bulk Drug Manufacturers Association of India (BDMA), the sector lost around Rs 500 crore during the Telangana agitation in December 2009.
The Government had stepped up security in the state capital and also Cyberabad, an IT hub on the city's outskirts, ahead of the submission of the pane's report.
