HYDERABAD: Syed Hafeez, who has been evading appearance in the High Court since December 21 in connection with a contempt case, made a sudden appearance before the chief justice on Tuesday and said he had come to to surrender.On coming to know of the presence of the contemnor, home department’s counsel K Janakiram Reddy, along with policemen, rushed to the court. The chief justice directed the police to take Hafeez into custody. Police took him to Chanchalguda.Hafeez had waged in vain a legal battle against his land lady and was sentenced to six months’ civil imprisonment for failure to obey the court order to vacate the rented flat. He gave an undertaking in the High Court promising to vacate. On Dec 20, the chief justice directed him to vacate the flat immediately and appear in court the next day. When Hafeez failed to do so, the chief justice directed the police to launch a manhunt and issued a non-bailable arrest warrant.
