City-based Sridhar Rao Kulkarni’s latest art exhibition titled ‘Gateways’ is an interesting journey that takes its patrons through the contours of the Bindu. The tagline, ‘Redifining the Bindu’ is a self exploratory experiment of the artist that delves into a growing philosophic stance. The exhibition is an introduction to the meditative abstract art form that is philosophical and retrospective in its conception and execution. Progressing from his last work on the free flowing army of monkey gods - the vanarasena of Lord Hanuman - he transforms his artistic energies into rings of infinite depth and of opaque shades. “The flow of energy remained the same but the forceful linear forms of monkeys went round about and changed into a ‘dot ’ or the ‘Bindu’. They uncover and reveal layers of the self,” shares Rao. At the first look, none of the nine paintings of Sridhar elicit a very different response - painted on a mixed canvas, the artworks are a psychedelic explosion of colours in a concentric circle. Yet, the introspective aspect coupled with the free flowing colours create a transcendental mood for the observer. His other works include interwoven lines in bright colours projected on a subtler coloured canvas and abstract figures shaped in U’s, rings and polka dots repeated in a multitude of patterns. He sticks to colours like red, blue, pink and black of which he re-experiments on every piece to result in different combinations. The easy on the eye yet colourful juxtaposition of colours and shapes perfectly complement a living room or a dining area where you would unwind to sip your coffee. Prices start at `60,000and go up close to a lakh. The artworks will be on display till October 30, from 11 am to 7 pm at the Icon art gallery at Road No 12 Banjara Hills.
