TUMKUR: What connects the spicy biryani with tricky engineering? The question arose after four engineering graduates jumped off the track to open a biryani cafe in the city. The foursome launched a Sunday to Sunday ‘Biryani Week’ to serve all varieties-from vegetarian to non vegetarian- of food at reasonable price under a makeshift single roof on B H Road, next to Vishali Bar and Restaurant here. The idea first struck Ritvik, an Industrial Engineering and Management graduate, who had also worked as a marketing head for the Bangalore-based Frontier Business Solutions.Rithvik shared it with his schoolmates Dayanand, a civil engineer, Suhas, who holds an MBA degree from a UK varsity and Ravi, a Bcom graduate. What is education all about if it did not imbibe the spirit? They decided to give shape to their idea by investing `6 lakh.On Sunday, the day one of their venture, about 500 biryani pockets were sold in two hours helping them to taste success. The smalltown-educated youths had dared to stray from the track and their risk paid fruit.Explaining the move to Express Ritvik said, “Actually, Tumkur city has been growing and the purchasing power of middle class has increased considerably. I found that there was no restaurant which fitted their need and served them the variety. Hence we ventured to tap into that potential.”The Biryani Week’s menu was rich on Sunday with as many as 12 varieties Hyderabad to Malbaari. Rithvik explained that high profile chefs from Bangalore were hired for a week. Unlimited non-vegetable biryani is priced at `150 per person and `500 for a family of four, he added.
