Two women, including a journalist, and a software engineer were arrested by High Grounds police after the three women police sub-inspector (PSI) were allegedly assaulted for questioning them for creating nuisance on road.
The accused have been identified as Satish Puranik, 37, a software engineer and a resident of Embassy Habitat on Palace Road in Vasanthanagar, his wife Vandana Puranik, 30, a journalist with an English daily, and Prajaktha Mahendar, 30, a doctor at Narayana Hrudayalaya and a resident of Horamavu Road in Banasawadi.
According to the police, the three, along with two other women and a man, were allegedly consuming alcohol sitting on the bonnet of their car (KA-04-MF7161) near Mount Carmel College around 3.15 am on Tuesday. The car had a sticker bearing the name of an English daily on its rear glass.
When PSI Shobha questioned them for consuming alcohol in public space and lounging outside at odd hours, Vandana allegedly shouted at Shobha saying that she was a reporter and she had no rights to question them. She allegedly hit her and threatened of dire consequences. Prajaktha and Satish also abused the cops, the police explained. The three were arrested and subjected to medical tests at Bowring Hospital. They were remanded in judicial custody till August 22.
