Three members of a family including two children were killed while another one was seriously injured when a group of miscreants attacked them late at Monday night at Noamundi in West Singhbhum district, a senior police officer on Tuesday said.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Kiriburu) RM Bakhla said the police was investing the incident from all possible angles to apprehend the culprits. Preliminary investigation suggested that the incident took place over an issue related to money but the possibility of witchcraft being one of the reasons could not be ruled out, Bakhla said.
A group of ten miscreants barged into the house of one Budhram Purty and fatally attacked his family members including his wife Nandi Kui (36), two children Pandu Purty (9) and Sudarshan Purty (11) with sticks and swords, police said. Budhram, who rushed to the rescue of his family, was critically injured in the attack, police said adding he was admitted to the Noamundi hospital.
We are investigating the incident and conducting raids to apprehend the culprits, said officer-in-charge of Noamundi police station adding an FIR has been lodged against ten persons on the statement of Budhram.
