HYDERABAD: The pass percentage in CEEP-2012, the Common Entrance Examination for Admissions to Polytechnics, has dropped by about 4 per cent this year. About 80 per cent of the candidates have qualified in this year’s CEEP.Deputy chief minister and higher education minister Damodar Rajanarasimha released CEEP results here on Saturday. The department of technical education held the examination on May 2. The examination was for 120 marks, 60 marks for mathematics and 30 each for physics and chemistry. Those who secure 30 per cent or 36 marks qualify. Of the 2.33 lakh registered candidates, 2.28 lakh appeared for the examination.Three candidates _ G Suryateja from East Godavari, and Gubbala Saichand and SRS Harindra Reddy, both from West Godavari district, got the first rank by scoring equal marks _ 118 out of 120. Interestingly, they scored equal marks in all the three subjects _ 60 in mathematics, 28 in physics and 30 in chemistry.In case of a tie in the total marks secured, better rank is awarded to the candidate who secures higher marks in mathematics. In case the tie still persists, the marks secured in physics are taken into consideration. Even after this if the tie persists, same rank will awarded to the candidates and the tie will be broken at the time of admissions basing on SSC marks and date of birth. This year, as the three candidates scored equal marks in all the three subjects, they secured the same rank. There was therefore no second and third ranks awarded this year.The deputy chief minister said they were awaiting approval from the All India Council for Technical Education for new colleges and renewal of existing colleges to announce the schedule of counselling for admissions to diploma courses in engineering. There are 251 Polytechnics, including 110 government colleges, having 71,030 seats. Principal secretary (higher education) MG Gopal, AP State Council for Higher Education chairman P Jayaprakasha Rao and commissioner of technical education S.Balasubramanyam were present.
