TJAC planning big for Telangana march

In the run-up to the Telangana March on September 30, which is being viewed as the second edition of the Million March which took the T movemen to its pinnacle on March 10, 2011, the Telangana Joint Action Committee led by its chairman M.

Kodandaram organised a procession from Manikeshwari Nagar near Osmania University campus to RTC Crossroad here on Sunday. The rally was organised as a tribute to the people of Manikeswari Nagar for standing by the students of Osmania University during the Telangana movement on the university campus in spite of difficulties.

and commenced the run-up to the proposed Telangana March.

The procession passed through Warasiguda, Sitaphalmandi, Chilkalguda and Musheerabad before it culminated in a meeting at RTC Crossroad.

Addressing the gathering, Kodandaram said the main objective of the proposed Telangana March was to bring pressure on the centre for a quick decision on the long-pending Telangana statehood demand.

He said it was high time the people of Telangana made it clear in one voice that they wanted a separate state and there would not be any compromise on that.

He said similar rallies would be organised to mobilise people from every locality to participate in the Telangana March. Speaking to Express, TJAC chairman said they were yet to decide on the venue, route of the march and the number of participants.

All likeminded political parties such as BJP and CPI will participate in the March. Asked if Congress leaders from the region would also participate in it, the TJAC chairman said it was time the Congress made its stance clear, which was the basic condition for joining the movement.

‘’We are still working out the details and a concise picture will emerge most probably by September 17.

The purpose of the movement is to articulate the grievances and desires of the people of Telangana and bring pressure on the powers that be,’’ he said.

When asked in what way would it be different from other movements, he said that in the past employees and students had led the movements, which was followed by Sakala Janula Samme by commoners and now every individual would join it.

‘’It will be inevitable for the parties ruling at the Centre to take a final decision on Telangana as elections are not far off. ’’ On whether the March should be viewed as the second phase of Sakala Janula Samme, he said it was better to see it as the second edition of the Million March.
