Los Angeles: Superstar Tom Cruise and his pregnant fiancee Katie Holmes have hit back at a report claiming they have broken up, branding it "100 percent false" and "malicious".
The adamant denial from the 43-year-old Top Gun star and his 27-year-old paramour came after the relatively unknown US celebrity magazine Life and Style said on Valentine's day that their 10-month relationship was over.
"It should be known that the story is 100 percent false," Cruise's publicist Paul Bloch said in a statement received on Wednesday.
"Mr Cruise and Ms Holmes are still engaged and are moving forward with their wedding plans, as well as planning for the arrival of their child."
Despite the malicious fallacies put forth by Life and Style magazine, the couple is looking forward to a long and happy life together as a family, Bloch added.
The magazine quoted unidentified "friends" of the couple as saying they had agreed to call off their engagement but maintain the "charade of a romance until after their baby's birth" in the next two months.
"In the meantime, the couple will live in his Beverly Hills home - though sleeping in separate bedrooms - through the summer," the magazine said in a press release.
Cruise and Holmes began dating in April and the Mission Impossible star caused a stir when just a few months later he leapt up and down on a sofa during an interview with talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, giddily expressing his love for Holmes.
The unusual antics sparked widespread speculation in the media over whether the expression of love was genuine or a publicity stunt.
He then used his War of the Worlds global media tour to announce his engagement to Holmes in June and then proceeded to talk publicly - and sometimes combatively - about his Scientology beliefs.
