KOCHI: It is going to be hectic campaigning at Piravom with all the top leaders of the UDF, LDF and BJP flocking to the constituency for last-minute campaigning. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan are on the forefront of the campaign, emitting enthusiasm among the party workers. The LDF camp has lined up all state-level leaders for its candidate M J Jacob. CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan is at Piravom contacting the leaders right from the bottom for the past few days. Achuthanandan’s presence here for at least four days have boosted the confidence of the party workers. LDF convener Vaikom Viswan, former ministers Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, M A Baby, Jose Thettayil and Kadanapalli Ramachandran have all gathered at Piravom. CPI leaders K E Ismail, Binoy Viswom and Panniyan Ravindran also add to the band of leaders. The UDF, which sees the election as crucial, has roped in its entire team right from the Union Ministers to district-level leaders. Chandy and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala have already camped at the constituency to support UDF candidate Anoop Jacob. They will address meetings at different places. Both the leaders will be in the constituency till the last day of the campaign. Adding spirit to the campaign would be none other than Defence Minister A K Antony, who would tour the constituency on March 13. He would address public meetings at seven places. Union Ministers Vayalar Ravi, K V Thomas, K C Venugopal and Mullappally Ramachandran have conducted whirlwind tour of the constituency. The BJP camp hardly has any top leaders campaigning for the candidate. State president V Muraleedharan and senior leaders A N Radhakrishnan, C K Padmanabhan and M T Ramesh were the only leaders who were seen working for K R Rajagopal.
