BANGALORE: The Shivajinagar police have arrested two persons for allegedly conning a person on the pretext of offering US dollars and Saudi Arabia’s Riyal currency in exchange for Indian rupees.The accused have been identified as Mohammad Zakir (30), a native of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and Mohammad Miraj (20) of New Delhi.According to the police, Rizwan Sait, a textile merchant in Gurappana Palya, had filed a case stating that he had been cheated by a gang of six people including a woman, who claimed that they had Saudi Riyals and they would give them in exchange for Indian rupees at a lower rate. They then took him behind the St Mary Basilica Church on May 3 and gave him a wad of Riyals that was covered with a handkerchief. They left the spot after receiving Rs 4 lakh from Sait. When he examined the wad he found that only two Riyal notes were on both sides of the wad and in between there were only paper cuttings.Based on the complaint, Zakir was arrested and on the information given by him, Miraj was also nabbed near Rasool Market when he was trying to con more people. Twenty US Dollars and Rs 1,000 cash was recovered from him, the police added.The kingpin behind the racket, Jamaal, Total, his wife Baby and Mohammad Rafiq Matubbar are absconding and search is on to nab them.
