CHENNAI: Two students from Kerala, studying in an engineering college near Potheri, allegedly drowned after the car in which they were travelling overturned after plunging into a sewage canal near Guduvanchery on early Saturday. Police said Akash (20), son of a businessman, Srinivasan of Alapuzha, was driving the car with his friend Joseph George (20), son of a doctor, Jerry George of Thrissur. They were on their way to meet their friends at Kattankulathur, when Akash lost control of the car near Srinivasapuram and it plunged into a sewage canal alongside the road. “Both might have got stuck inside and drowned even before attempting to open the door,” a police official said. Fire personnel retrieved the bodies. The students were declared ‘brought dead’ at the Chengalpet GH.5 girls rescuedAn anti-vice squad arrested three pimps and rescued five women, including the daughter of one of the pimps, during raids in Kolathur and Korukkupet on Friday.Based on a tip-off, a special team sent a cop like a customer to a house at Vinayagapuram in Kolathur. He was told to bring `5,000 and choose one of the four girls there. The team then barged into the house and arrested Usha Jain (47) and Jagadheeshwari (48) and rescued four girls, including Usha’s daughter. In a similar raid conducted at Korukkupet, Vela alias Velankanni (37) was arrested and one woman was rescued. The three women were remanded to judicial custody and those rescued were sent to the Women’s Home at Mylapore.
