KOOTHUPARAMBA (Kannur): The number of victims of the road mishap that occurred at Udumalpet near Coimbatore early on Tuesday rose to five with two more persons succumbing to the injuries on Wednesday. Three of the injured died on Tuesday. All the victims of the tragic incident were natives of Patyam in Koothuparamba.Sreerag, 11, a standard VI student of Amritha Vidyalaya, Koothuparamba, and Sinzi, 21, a third-year BDS student at Bangalore, died on Wednesday at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital where they were undergoing treatment.Rugmini, 65, a retired teacher, her son Manojkumar, 47, and grandson Sibin Raj, 23, were the three who died a few hours after the mishap. The bodies were brought to the house early on Wednesday morning. The relatives of the deceased were making arrangements for the cremation of the bodies at Patyam when the news about the death of two more members of the family reached here. The cremation took place in the morning.The family was on its way to Pazhani when their jeep overturned near the Udumalpet electric crematorium. Eight persons had sustained injuries in the accident.The death toll is likely to go up as, according to sources, the condition of two other injured persons was serious.Meanwhile, a hartal was observed in the Patyam village and Pookkott on Wednesday expressing grief at the tragic incident.
