Samajwadi Party makes 21 BSP, BJP, Congress MLAs give letters of support to Governor T V Rajeswar.

Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Friday paraded 21 BSP, BJP, Congress and Independent MLAs before Governor T V Rajeswar to demonstrate support for the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.

The MLAs, who have either expelled or suspended by their parties, were accompanied by senior SP leaders and Ministers Naresh Agarwal and Ambika Chaudhary.

The MLAs gave Rajeswar letters of support to the government to end Opposition parties’ charge that the state government had lost majority, said Agarwal.

The Government had clear majority in the 403-member Vidhan Sabha. Asked why the Government didn’t take a test in the Vidhan Sabha was in session, he said: "If need be we would prove our majority on the floor of the House also at any given time".

On Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Ajit Singh's meeting with the Governor on Thursday and speculation that he would withdraw support to the government, Agarwal said "the RLD was firmly with us".

"It is all the imagination of the media; he is very much with the state government," said Agarwal.

The MLAs included 12 BSP, two from BJP, one from Congress besides six independents.

While the BSP MLAs were expelled after they voted in favour of the SP candidates in the recent Rajya Sabha biennial polls, the BJP MLAs had announced their decision to join the SP recently.
