PUDUCHERRY/VILLUPURAM: A US national was raped near Auroville on Saturday night. Juliet (name changed), who was staying near Auroville, was allegedly cycling when four youth overpowered and took her to a secluded spot and raped her. Auroville police (Villupuram district) registered a case under IPC Section 376. Speaking to Express, North Zone IG Sylendra Babu said, “In the preliminary investigation, it was found that it was not a gang rape. One person raped her while two others were present at the spot. I visited the spot and spoke to the victim. An FIR has been filed. Five special teams have been formed to nab the criminals.”Juliet came to India with her parents for research work. Speaking to the media, her parents said, “It was our fault. We should not have come to India. We do not want to say anything further.” She underwent treatment at JIPMER in connection with a “medico-legal case of alleged rape,” according to a top hospital source.
