New Delhi: Indian hopes at the US Open were kept alive by Leander Paes who entered the quarter-finals of the men's doubles event.

Paes partnering Czech Martin Damm beat Jarkko Nieminen of Finland and Graydon Oliver of the USA 6-4, 6-2 to reach the last eight.

In other matches of the men’s doubles Ashley Fisher of Australia and Tripp Phillips of the US beat Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski (Poland) 6-4, 6-4.

Australian-Zimbabwean pair of Paul Hanley and Kevin Ullyett defeated the South African-US pair of Chris Haggard and Bobby Reynolds 6-4, 6-4.

Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra of France had a tough time against the Israeli pair of Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram. Clement and Llodra finally won 6-7 (2), 7-6 (5), 6-2.

Jonas Bjorkman of Sweden and Max Mirnyi of Belarus beat German pair of Michael Kohlmann and Alexander Waske 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

French-Serbian duo Fabrice Santoro and Nenad Zimonjic beat Olivier Rochus and Kristof Vliegen of Belgium 7-6 (2), 4-6, 7-6 (6).

In boys' doubles, Rupesh Roy along with Roberto Maytin of Venezuala cruised to the second round by posting a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win over home pair of Chase Buchanan and Marcus Fugate.

However, in boys' singles, 15th seed Jeevan Neduncheziyan was toppled by Michal Konecny of Czech Republic in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
