InoVIT, the annual science contest for school children organised by VIT University, is back with its second edition this year. Last academic year, InoVIT was conducted at the State level, including Puducherry. The second edition this year is being extended to the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry. The theme for the contest this year is “Green Clean Earth Breathes”.

According to VIT Chancellor, G Viswanathan the contest is aimed at inculcating interest in science activities  among students to apply their technical and scientific knowledge towards the benefit and betterment of society and mankind as a whole.

The science contest will be conducted under four major categories of Working Model, Idea Presentation, Quiz and Poster Presentation. Students of 9 to 12 standards are eligible to participate. Three rounds of evaluation procedure will be followed, namely Qualifying Round, Preliminary Round and Final Round. To participate in the qualifying round, the contestants are expected to submit an abstract of 250 words about their ideas. The last date for submitting their abstracts and the registration form is October 20, 2012. Interested students can also register online at https://inovit2013registration.questionpro.com. Contestants register by sending the filled in form by post.

The abstracts will be evaluated by an expert committee and the selected abstracts will be called for the preliminary round. The preliminary round will be conducted in 18 centres of Chennai, Vellore, Trichy, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Bangalore, Hubli, Mangalore, Tirupati, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Thrissur, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Eranakulam and Puducherry across the five states between November 17 and 24.

The contestants have to display their working models, posters, present their idea and face a quiz in the respective centres. Shortlisted candidates from the preliminary round will be called for the final round at VIT University in the first week of January 2013. The Chancellor also announced the total prize money of `3 lakh for the contest.
