BANGALORE: Express had recently reported (May 21), the difficulties a common man faces when he goes to fetch his daily needs at the market hub of Bangalore, KR Market.Nearly after a month, the BBMP has responded to the problems by initiating actions in that area. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has changed the outlook of Krishna Rajendra Market by evicting road side vendors from their stalls. On Monday, the BBMP closed the top floor of the Market, stating a way bridge will soon be constructed to the top floor. Sources say customers generally do not go the top floor, hence to tackle this problem BBMP has chalked this plan.Kusuma Chandrashekar, a daily visitor to KR Market said, “For the first time in many years I am seeing KR Market so empty and sorted out. Lack of space to walk around was my biggest complaint.Once, I had even lost my chain in the crowd. It’s completely different now.” Sanjeev, parking contractor at the KR Market said, “Vendors don’t enter these areas until the BBMP watchmen are here. But, like the routine, vendors put up stalls after these watchmen leave creating ruckus on streets.” Speaking about the further plans, M Roopa Ramesh, chairman, Standing Committee for Markets, said, “The present condition at KR Market is beyond repair.Hence, we have taken this initiative to improve the conditions.Today, no vegetable vendors were allowed to put up their shops. The Palike will soon come out with alternatives for these vendors.” The chairman added, palike will soon open the top floor of the Market and has started constructing the way bridge to the top floor. She also mentioned Palike was facing shortage of cleaning staffers and security personnels
