An elderly woman was killed and several others were injured when portions of a balcony collapsed at a four-storey residential building in south Mumbai on Saturday.
According to official sources, the incident happened at Rubinissa Manzil building on Sleater Road near Grant Road railway station. Portions of the balcony and slabs on the second and third floors of the four-storey structure reportedly collapsed partially, with some sections hanging precariously.
The incident happened around 11 am today amid heavy rains that had been battering the city for a third consecutive day.
“Four persons were injured after some part of the balcony collapsed. They were rushed to a local hospital, where a woman was declared dead, while three others are undergoing treatment,” a fire brigade official told news agency PTI.
The official also noted that the building, managed by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), had previously been identified as unsafe by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which had issued warnings about its condition.
Following the incident, seven individuals were rescued from the building, the official confirmed.
