HYDERABAD: A gang of seven, involved in preparing and circulating fake currency notes of various denominations, was busted by the Task Force sleuths on Thursday. The sleuths seized bogus currency worth Rs 5.14 lakh along with the material used in preparating them.The gang was led by a woman identified as Shakera. Though Shakera and one of her associates Aqeel are absconding, the sleuths arrested other gang members - Mohammed Hassan, Mohammed Osman, Abdul Manaf, Mohammed Ghouse and Syed Sarfaraz.Disclosing the details at a press conference on Thursday, Hyderabad police commissioner AK Khan said that the gang, which used to operate from Kalapather area, was started by Shakera, a resident of Moghalpura. “Earlier, she used to get loans sanctioned to the needy people from banks and got commission. But sometimes she failed to get the loans sanctioned despite taking advance for the work,” Khan said. She also used to make people believe that she was into some business and get people to invest money with her. However, as she owed a lot of money to various people, she hatched a plan to print and circulate fake currency. She formed a gang with Osman who knew how to make fake currencies. She also involved Hassan who had invested Rs 10 lakh with her. The accused then bought a computer, laser jet colour printer and a scanner among other things and started printing bogus currency in the denomination of Rs 100, Rs 500 and Rs 1,000. Khan appealed to the people to check the security features on notes like the watermark, security thread, latent image among other things before accepting notes from anybody.
