Paris: DBApparel, the clothing company behind the Wonderbra and Playtex brands, said on Friday it might cut 950 jobs in Europe due to declining turnover.
The French-headquartered company said sales had fallen around 20 per cent over the past three years, with its fiscal year 2006 financial projections at below breakeven.
It added it faced further competition from rivals across the world.
DBApparel, which employs 12,000 staff worldwide, said it aimed to limit the number of compulsory redundancies as part of its restructuring.
"Part of the business transformation includes restructuring proposals impacting European employment across DBApparel," it said in a statement.
"These proposals would impact certain of the manufacturing and distribution operations as well as management / administrative functions. In total, approximately 950 positions could be eliminated across Europe in the 2006-2007 periods," it added.
Chief Executive Eliaz Poleg added in a statement that the restructuring would help ensure the long-term profitability of the group.
