Mihir Shah, the main accused in the Worli BMW hit-and-run case, was arrested by the Mumbai Police on Tuesday. He was arrested from Shahpur in Thane and will be brought to the Worli police station. Police also arrested 12 other people in the case.

Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah’s son, 24-year-old Mihir Shah was allegedly driving the BMW car which fatally knocked down a woman, Kaveri Nakhwa (45), and injured her husband Pradeep while the couple was on their two-wheeler in Mumbai’s Worli area on Sunday morning.

Mihir Shah had been absconding since then. Mumbai police had formed six teams to arrest him. A Look Out Circular (LOC) had also been put out to prevent him from fleeing the country.

Kaveri’s husband, Pradeep while talking to CNN-News18 on Tuesday asked why was Mihir hiding “if he was not guilty?” Pradeep also said his wife was “dragged by car tyres, not the bonnet”.

“Mihir did not reverse the car. I kept shouting to stop the car but he did not listen to me,” he added.

The arrest comes a day after the accused’s father, Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah was granted bail in the case. Rajesh Shah, who owns the car involved in the crash, and Rajrishi Bidawat, their family driver who was in the vehicle at the time of the accident, were arrested on Sunday for allegedly helping Mihir escape after the crash.

On Monday, Mumbai police had told the court that Rajesh Shah instructed his son Mihir to escape from the spot after the incident, in which a woman was killed and her husband injured.

He also instructed the family’s driver, Bidawat, who was in the car at the time, to take responsibility for the incident, the police had added.

All three of the accused have been booked under a range of charges, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
