New Delhi: Zubeen Garg, one of the most well-known singers from Assam, left a "Bihu stage" after the organiser allegedly stopped him from singing Hindi songs.
The incident occurred on Friday night when the singer, before leaving the stage, allegedly abused the organiser and said artistes have the right to sing in the language they prefer.
The abusive word was reportedly heard loud and clear on local channels that were covering the event live.
Hitting out at Garg, the organiser claimed he had agreed beforehand not to sing Hindi songs. "His event manager had assured us even before he went up on the stage that he will not be singing any Hindi song on the Bihu stage," Madhu Ranjan Nath, president of the Noonmati Bihu Sanmilan, said.
“It was a gentleman's agreement that he flouted, prompting us to stop him from singing. We are not opposed to any language, but the Bihu stage is not for singing Hindi songs," he said.
Garg had opened his act with a few Assamese and bihu songs and has just started singing Dil Tu Hi Bata from Krrish 3 when he was stopped. “I don’t understand why I was stopped. Hindi is our national language... Hindi, Assamese, Bengali and other languages originated from Sanskrit," he said later.
