Cities are bustling with fairs ahead of the festive season. Amidst this, the ‘Silk of India’ fair being held at Jaipur’s Jawahar Kala Kendra has drawn weavers and traders from across the country who have come to showcase their handmade products.
Many artisans from Uttar Pradesh are participating, displaying a range of items from textiles to renowned carpets and utensils. The renowned carpets from Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi are highly sought after, drawing interest from international buyers at the fair.
Known for enhancing the beauty of home interiors, Bhadohi carpets are in high demand. These special carpets are handmade, with prices ranging from Rs 1,200 to Rs 1 lakh, attracting a large crowd of eager buyers.
Talking to News18, Mohammad Salim Sheikh, who travelled from Bhadohi to the ‘Silk of India’ fair, shared that carpet weaving has been the tradition of his family for generations.
“Carpets from Uttar Pradesh are highly sought after globally and within India, with Bhadohi carpets being the most renowned. The craftsmanship involved in Bhadohi carpets is entirely handmade and comes in various designs, sizes, and materials, including wool, cotton, and silk,” Sheikh said.
“They are known for their vibrant colours, which gives them a unique charm and makes them exceptionally beautiful. The exquisite carpets are priced between Rs 1,200 to Rs 1 lakh, attracting buyers from near and far,” he added.
Sheikh shared that there is a huge demand for his carpets in Jaipur and he keeps coming to the city every month. There is a huge demand for carpets among people before Diwali. Hence Sheikh has come to the ‘Silk of India’ fair with more than 500 different designs.
