Underground construction work of the Noapara-Barasat via Bimanbandar Metro rail project in West Bengal is underway in full swing, while adhering to COVID-19 safety protocols, an official said on Sunday.

Construction of the diaphragm wall is in progress underneath the Airport Entry Road at the proposed Bimanbandar Metro Station, he said.

All necessary steps have been taken for ensuring smooth vehicular movement at the junction of the congested VIP Road and Airport Entry Road, the Kolkata Metro Railway official said in a communique. After the construction of a temporary guard wall at the site, soil is being excavated and the cage of the diaphragm wall is being lowered, he said.

The machine excavating the soil has the capacity to operate up to a depth of 50 metres. The depth of a one metre-wide diaphragm wall panel varies between 16 and 18 metres, he said.

The state authorities have also been cooperating for smooth completion of the construction work, the official added.
