Park Min-young Denies Receiving Rs 1.5 Crore From Ex-Boyfriend: ‘Misunderstood For Over A Year’
Reports suggested that Park Min-young lied about receiving money from her controversial ex-boyfriend Kang Jong-hyun.

South Korean actress Park Min-young is facing scrutiny over allegations of receiving 250 million Korean Won (approximately Rs 1.5 Crore) in illegal funds from her ex-boyfriend, businessman Kang Jong-hyun. Some reports claim that Kang allegedly borrowed the money from a company, and it was then deposited into Park’s personal account, labelled as ‘living expenses.’ The transaction allegedly involved a complex 3-step process. As per initial reports, the actress claimed she wasn’t aware of Kang Jong Hyun’s actions during their relationship. However, as the controversy escalated, Park, through her agency, Hook Entertainment, denied any wrongdoing.

As per All K Pop, the agency stated, “Actress Park Min-young was investigated as a reference person by the prosecution in February 2023, in connection with Kang Jong Hyun using her account in another name. It was clearly stated that Park Min-young did not participate in any illegal activities or gain any illegal benefits. The 250 million won mentioned in the article was used by Kang Jong Hyun’s account, not as Park Min Young’s living expenses. Park Min-young has been misunderstood for over a year due to false information. Despite this, she accepted criticism and regretted her actions, focusing more on her acting career. She believes that showing good acting through good works is her role and duty as an actress. We hope that there will be no more baseless accusations damaging the reputation of actress Park Min-young.”

Back in September 2022, Park Min-young publicly declared the end of her relationship with Kang Jong-hyun amid rumours about their romantic involvement. At that time, both the official statement and the recent report denied any financial support from Kang, asserting that such claims were entirely untrue. The earlier statement also mentioned Park Min-young’s sister, Ms Park, expressing the intention to step down as an outside director at Biogen.

As per reports, Kang Jong-hyun faced charges of misusing around 62.8 billion won (approximately Rs 39 Lakh) from a cryptocurrency stock price manipulation. As a witness, Park Min-young underwent an investigation in February in connection to Kang Jong-hyun’s case. However, in December, the Seoul Southern District Court granted Kang Jong-hyun’s bail, with conditions including a 300 million won (approximately Rs 1 Crore) deposit, restrictions on residence, no contact with witnesses and the surrender of electronic devices.

After the incident, Park Min-young returned to the TV with Marry My Husband. During the drama’s production presentation on the same day, she shared her experiences, expressing that the past year had taken a toll on her both physically and mentally. Although she had doubts regarding her return, the director’s support provided her some relief. The actress claimed she took therapy and went through a brainwave test, which showed feelings of guilt related to the Kang Jong-hyun case. She highlighted the importance of showing a positive image as an actor to avoid unpleasant incidents. Despite regrets, she showed her determination to return and requested support from the audience.
