It’s been months of speculation surrounding BLACKPINK’s Lisa not renewing her contract with management agency YG Entertainment garnered buzz on social media. Rumours were rife that the K-pop idol might leave the agency to take up international offers. Now, a news report by a Taiwanese media outlet SETN has suggested that Lisa is quite likely to ink a deal with an American agency rather than renewing her ties with YG Entertainment. The name of the American record label remains unclear but it is speculated the deal comes with multiple tempting terms too impossible to miss.
The contract offers a guaranteed sum of $37.7 million (Rs 313 crore) with a plethora of business and promotional ventures including fashion, music, and live performances. If that wasn’t enough, the deal offers a release of six albums with Lisa being the owner and holding the copyright to her new music. She is also likely to get her own studio if she plans to take up the contract. It is important to note that both Lisa and her management agency have neither confirmed nor denied the ongoing speculation. Details regarding whether Lisa will actually part ways with YG Entertainment can only be known if an official statement comes directly from the K-pop sensation.
Previously, it was reported that Lisa was supposed to renew her contract with YG Entertainment in August. Although the renewal process went smoothly with other members of BLACKPINK including Jisoo, Rose, and Jennie. The company supposedly couldn’t reach an agreement with the group’s lead rapper, vocalist, and main dancer. At the time, Lisa was quite busy with her Born Pink world tour. YG Entertainment was quick to refute rumours of her leaving the popular K-pop girl group.
The management agency added the delay in her contract renewal is caused by her hectic world schedule. “(The uncertain scheduling) is due to the tour schedule as well as her individually scheduled activities. It has nothing to do with the contract renewal,” said YG Entertainment as per Soompi, adding, “Contract renewals are currently under discussion.”
The Born Pink world tour that began in October last year finally came to an end on September 17 in Seoul, South Korea.
