In an attempt to expand its vote base among minorities and women in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a special campaign, ’Shukriya Modiji’. Activists from BJP’s Minority Morcha that has been assigned the task said the exercise, to start on October 15, would cover both urban and rural pockets of UP.
Jamal Siddiqui, BJP Minority Morcha national president, said the campaign would be carried out in all parts of UP where Muslim women would be asked to share their experiences and thoughts about various government schemes and the steps Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken to extend support to them. “These include law against triple talaq, other benefits including Ujjwala scheme, free gas connection programme, Har Ghar Jal, etc,” he added.
As part of the campaign, officials said that the members of BJP’s minority wing would create awareness among Muslim women and in minority-dominated areas. “Women would be motivated to write letters to PM Modi, highlighting their experiences and their thoughts about the steps taken by him and how the steps have benefitted them, be it about the prompt action in triple talaq cases, about the welfare schemes, etc,” a party insider said.
Other than this, the BJP also plans to launch other programmes including Modi Mitr in Muslim-dominated areas and other seats where the party’s performance was less than satisfactory in previous elections. Party insiders said that over one lakh Modi Mitr would be roped in for this. The party is also lining up several awareness drives and ‘sammelans’ across UP to woo the minority voters and to expand its vote base in the Muslim-dominated areas.
